What’s The Best Way To Learn Spanish?

There is a lot of debate going on over the best way to learn Spanish – or the best way to learn any foreign language, for that matter.  I remember in high school, we used to go on immersion trips where the Spanish class would go out to a campsite and only speak Spanish for the whole weekend (at least, that’s what we were supposed to do).  From my experience, immersion trips during high school years did not represent the best way to learn Spanish.  They were a great way to get away for the weekend, but not really the best way to learn or utilize Spanish.  Since then, I have been researching exactly what may qualify then as the best way to learn Spanish because I am trying to bring my children up to be able to speak both English and Spanish fluently.

The key seems to be to start young.  There are so many studies and so many research projects that pretty much just show the same thing – the sooner a child starts to learn a foreign language, the greater the odds are that they will be successful and be able to speak the language fluently.   I can only speak to my personal experience, but I know that learning Spanish in high school has left me pretty rusty.  Meanwhile, I have taught my children at an early age and, while they are not full grown yet, they seem to have a very good grasp on the language and speak it very well conversationally.  Because I had only taken Spanish in high school, I tried out a few different programs and found one that was particularly useful and it offered with Learn Spanish Today.  This program actually gave us 11 free classes to sample, which I thought was a great number of lessons to see if the children were able to pick it up.  It worked great for us.
