Having knowledge of a second language can help in a number of environments – from jobs, to immersion projects, to being able to help in an emergency situation. Being able to learn some easy Spanish words quickly will be a real advantage. There are many benefits to learning Spanish as a second language. Spanish is a popular language not just in the United States, but around the world as well. Many countries tote Spanish as their official/primary language.
Lots of people are interested in learning Spanish because of its popularity. Sometimes it can help to get a foundation in the language just by learning some easy Spanish words. Every language has its difficulties and barriers, but by learning easy Spanish words first, individuals are more likely to build their confidence in their ability to learn a second language, and hopefully eventually move on to some of the more challenging aspects of learning Spanish (which, for me, definitely included verb conjugation).
For me, there are two types of easy Spanish words: those that I use frequently and therefore have more of an inclination to memorize, and those which are similar or identical in spelling and pronunciation to their English counterparts.
Hijo / Mi Hijo is very easy for me – Son / My son. I have a son, so it was easy for me to pick this word up. Tia, aunt, has also always stuck out in my mind. However, many of the easy Spanish words for all individuals are those which called cognates. These words have similar spellings in English and in Spanish. Here are some examples. They should only take a few minutes to learn!
cliente client
diferente different
atención attention
artista artist
abundante abundant
importante important
clásico classic
salario salary
universidad university
distancia distance
itinerario itinerary
monumento monument
turista tourist
These are some Spanish/English words that have the exact same spelling for even more ease in learning!
animal animal
director director
noble noble
central central
