The sixth mistake to avoid to learn how to speak Spanish the right way, is taking for granted that Spanish words that look like English words, have the same meaning. Words like these, that are the same or similar are called cognates. It would pay you to study these, as while some may carry the same or similar meaning, many others DO NOT.

The seventh mistake to avoid when learning Spanish, is not learning subjunctive mood. If you hope to do more than state simple facts and ask simple questions, then learning the subjunctive mood is necessary, despite the fact that in the English language we rarely notice if a verb is in the subjunctive mood. To learn how to speak Spanish the right way, learning the subjunctive mood is required.

The eighth mistake to avoid is a biggie. Assuming that every text book you read, or website you view is correct in everything. Speaking Spanish by following the rulebook will be understood. However, in order to really translate the sincerity of the language, it is best to imitate the Spanish you hear every day once you are comfortable speaking the language.

The ninth mistake to avoid is not learning the proper time to use articles. Articles are un, una, el, la, los, las. It is the same when a foreigner tries to learn English and uses a, the, and, etc improperly. You will still understand them, but it will mark them as new to the language.

Finally, the 10 mistake to avoid, in order to learn to speak Spanish the right way, is being afraid to screw up. Even if you make mistakes, it is better to do that than never use what you have learned. In most cases, those you attempt to converse with, will truly appreciate your sincere attempt to learn their language, and be willing to offer you a bit of guidance.
